World Wetlands Day 2016: all about biodiversity!

Celebrated every February 2nd, the World Wetlands Day (WWD) was established by the UN through the signing of the Ramsar Convention in Iran by 157 countries on February 2, 1971. The goal is to encourage and promote biodiversity conservation. Since 1997, this international day is dedicated to raising public awareness of wetlands. The Ramsar Convention, from the Iranien city of Ramsar where the convention was adopted, has taken up the issue of the protection of wetlands worldwide.

WSA towards the empowerment of local communities in Senegal

Empowering local communities with regard to funding sanitation programmes is the noble goal WSA is pursuing to accelerate access to sustainable sanitation for all in Africa. In Senegal, this initiative was launched as part of the Empowerment Support Project which implementation promises to offer great prospects in improving community sanitation.

Praise and encouragement to WSA from its PCM

Tuesday, December 8, 2015: The Burkinabe Minister of Agriculture, Water Resources, Sanitation and Food Security, also President of the WSA Council of Ministers (PCM), Dr. François LOMPO, visited the institution staff. Encourage staff for the tremendous sacrifices made in the name of the institution recovery in this post-crisis period and inquire as to the progress in implementing the roadmap entrusted to the Provisional Administration, were on the agenda of this visit.

WSA unfolds an ambitious project in Idiofa, DRC to improve population access to water and sanitation

In line with its vision and building on its rich experience in terms of provision of water and sanitation services to African populations, Water and Sanitation for Africa, WSA pursues its mission through its various country offices. As such, an important project has been launched in the city of Idiofa, Bandundu Province, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). Ten (10) villages will benefit from this project and will see a significant improvement of their sanitary conditions.

Promoting household sanitation: WSA has put an end to open air defecation in several villages in Mauritania by deploying CLTS

Put an end to open air defecation, the task the Pan African Intergovernmental Agency Water and Sanitation for Africa (WSA) has undertaken in hundreds of communities in Mauritania. As such, WSA has unwounded since 2013 the "Implementation of the household sanitation component through the CLTS approach in 100 localities of the Hodh Chargui region" Project.
